When visiting Boston, one of the most pleasant things is the choice of water travel available. There is no need to spend a visit to this beautiful city fighting traffic and enduring delays. There are several ferries and water taxi services that depart from Boston harbor to several locations. Some ferry services are operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority while others are run by private operators. The water taxi shuttle that connects Boston harbor with Boston Logan Airport is quite popular. Inexpensive and fast, this on-demand service will carry passengers and their luggage to the airport dock near the terminal, where an airport ground transportation vehicle will pick them up.

Another very popular service that is run by the MBTA is the inexpensive ferry running frequently from Boston harbor to the Charlestown Navy Yard in the inner harbor, home of the USS Constitution and the Naval History Museum.

At Boston Harbor, ferries depart from Long Wharf and Central Wharf on the north side near the Aquarium, and from Rowe’s Wharf on the south side. Commuter ferries depart for Hull, Quincy, and Hingham to the south of Boston. There is also frequent fast catamaran service to Provincetown in Cape Cod.
