Harvey’s Casino Resort in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe, especially the Nevada side has really interesting architecture. It tries to recreate the Las Vegas experience within a half mile stretch. Tall hotel towers, bright lights, glitter and gamblers. Harvey’s Casino Resort is located right on the border with California so many people cross over from the quaint California side (just across the street) to try their luck. We stayed at Harvey’s in the middle of May ….

Our room had outstanding views. Lake Tahoe in all its glamour with surrounding forests and snow capped mountains. I found myself staring at this wonderland all the time … Hotel room was decent. Clean and modest. Moving through the hotel though did not give me a Lake Tahoe experience at all. Air inside the resort was very smoky. Everything had a gambling focus. With all this wonderful nature around us, we were completely isolated from it.

Staff was pleasant. Hotel was a bit dated though it seemed like they made the most of what they have. We did not try any restaurants here.

The highlight of the entire trip included being far away from any urban areas. Lake Tahoe is so beautiful and offers such variety of activities that once you are here the last thing I would recommend is to hang around your hotel and inhale cigarette smoke. On our next visit we will probably to stay on the California side in a smaller hotel/motel.

So You Want to Be a Casino Dealer Or Bartender in Las Vegas

I traveled to Las Vegas several times a year from Dallas, before I moved to Las Vegas almost a year ago. The number one question people ask me when they are thinking about moving to Las Vegas is how easy is it to become a dealer or bartender? Well in today’s economy either choice could be difficult, let’s look at both options.

Las Vegas Casino Dealer

Out of the two choices this is probably the most chosen. There are literally thousand of dealers who work in Las Vegas. There are shifts that cover every hour of every day year round. The pay range of Dealers can vary greatly from twenty thousand to over a hundred thousand dollars a year. Most dealers will get started in a break in casino which are located off the strip in some of the lesser known casinos, and most new dealers also start out as part time, or full time covering different shifts.

The best way to break into a Casino Dealing job in Las Vegas is to go to a reputable Casino Dealers School, which has a good reputation of job placement and getting their students job auditions at Casinos. Make sure and visit several schools and even talk to current and former students before making a commitment to a school.

Las Vegas Bartender

Bartending jobs in Las Vegas can be very good, and very hard to get. Top bartenders in Vegas can earn more than a hundred thousand dollars a year. These jobs are also hard to get. Most bartenders at major casinos on and off the strip are unionized meaning you have to belong to the union and usually have to start as a bar back or apprentice bartenders. Some casinos get around the union calling their bartenders entertainers, so if you have flair skills or look like a runway model you may have a better chance getting a job.

In a recent non-union casino that opened here, they where looking for female bartenders and required them to interview in bikinis. So if you are a good looking female you have a better chance of being hired as a bartender than most, hey it is Vegas!

It can be equally daunting to get a job in a local bar, almost all local bars have video poker machines, and require gaming cards just like casinos. Even in local bars you will see them advertise for female only bartenders, or require two years of Las Vegas gaming bartending experience. Be wary of local bartending schools, there are quite a few and I meet graduates of these schools working all kinds of jobs, but not bartending.

In summary, you can get a bartending job in Las Vegas but you will have to be persistent because it will not happen overnight. Casino dealing jobs are easier to get, but it will not pay a lot when you start, but can turn into a nice career over the long haul with experience. Always check out any of the Dealer and Bartending schools in Vegas before you make a commitment, do your homework.

Welcome to Casino Blackjack!

Welcome to Casino Blackjack! Blackjack is now the most popular casino game. Blackjack is also the most profitable game- for the casino! How is this possible? How can a game which has rules that seem so advantageous to the player, be so profitable for the casino?

The dealer is limited to strict rules. The dealer must stand on a card total of 17. The player can draw as many cards as he or she wants. The dealer must hit a card total of 16. The player may stand on a 16.

Also, the player has so many other options to take advantage of. The player can Double Down, Split Pairs, Take Insurance, and even Surrender a bad hand in some casinos.

In most casinos, the player can usually increase the amount bet on each hand by a factor of one hundred! You can bet five dollars on one hand, and then bet five hundred dollars on the next hand! If you are dealt a Blackjack, you win one and one half times your bet.

Someone who is new to the game would say this seems to be “get-rich-quick” scheme. Actually it is a “get- rich-quick” scheme. With most unskilled Blackjack players, -the casino gets rich quick!

Why is it that a game that seems so easy to beat is so rarely beaten? Why do so few players win at this game?

First of all, the game of Blackjack is not what it appears to be! If you play Blackjack using what seems to be “common sense” (in other words-without a playing method or computer tested rules), you can expect an approximate 5 to 6% disadvantage! By the time you finish this course, you will understand how the casino gains this advantage. You will also learn a method of playing that will reduce the casino advantage, and increase your chance of winning at this game.

Of all the games in the casino, Blackjack offers you the best chance of winning. Blackjack offers you the most control over the game. Most casino games do not allow the players to use their skill or exercise control over the outcome of the game. Very few players understand the importance of this fact.

As the cards are dealt out during Blackjack play, the odds swing back and forth during the game, favoring either the player or the casino. The skilled player who can determine when these odds are favorable, can cut the casino advantage to near zero! By using proper playing decisions and increasing bet size at these favorable times, you can play with a positive advantage.

IS BLACKJACK A GAME OF SKILL, OR A GAME OF CHANCE?

Is Blackjack a game of skill, or is it a game of chance, just like any of the other games in the casino? The answer is yes to both questions! Blackjack is a game of skill and a game of chance. Remember, Blackjack is a casino game in which chance is not the only factor that determines the outcome of the game.

Most games in the casino are subject to the Law of Independent Trials. This is a statistical term. The Law of Independent Trials states that any event is just as likely to occur in a game of chance every time the game is played. Every time the dice are thrown, every time the roulette wheel is spun, every time the slot machine handle is pulled, -the odds in effect for that particular game do not change! It might seem hard to believe, -but it is true!

It might be easier to understand if you imagine that you’ve just pulled a slot machine handle 500 times without hitting the big jackpot. You leave the machine to get some lunch. A woman comes along, drops a quarter into the slot, and pulls the handle. -Is she more likely to hit the big jackpot? Is this slot machine more likely to pay off after 501 pulls of the handle than it was after your 500th pull of the handle?

The answer is that she has exactly the same odds of hitting the big jackpot on her pull as you had on any of your 500 pulls! The odds in effect for that particular game do not change!

This phenomenon does not occur in the game of Blackjack. Blackjack is not subject to the Law of Independent Trials! As the cards are dealt from the shoe, the odds of the game fluctuate back and forth. You will learn a card tracking method that will alert you as to when these odds favor the player. This method becomes more and more accurate as the dealer gets closer to the shuffle point. You will also learn how to enter and exit the game at certain times to take full advantage of this fact!

You must use your skill to gain this information. You will also be using your skill to make playing and wagering decisions. Your wagering decisions will be based on this card tracking information. Blackjack is one casino game in which your skill can greatly affect your chance of winning!

THREE KINDS OF BLACKJACK PLAYERS?

There are many different kinds of Blackjack players. I used to think that they fell into three neat categories. In the first group are the people who can walk into any casino, sit down at a Blackjack table and win money on a regular basis. These people make their living playing Blackjack.

In the second group are people who play Blackjack for some extra money. These people supplement their regular income by winning this extra money playing Blackjack. These two groups probably account for less than 2 percent of all Blackjack players!

The third group of people make up the other ninety-eight percent of all Blackjack players. Some of them play often. Others play once a year. They all have one thing in common. They can usually be counted on to make a nice donation of money to the casino when they play. No matter where, or how they play Blackjack, they usually lose money!

JUST TWO KINDS OF BLACKJACK PLAYERS IN THE WORLD!

Some of you might remember the old song ‒Just Two Kinds People in The World by Little Anthony and The Imperials. If you think about it, you will realize that there are just two kinds of Blackjack players in the world, -the winners and the losers! I don’t care if you play Blackjack once a year, or once a week. I don’t care if you’re an expert or a beginner. I don’t care if you play with five dollar chips or hundred dollar chips!

On New Year’s Eve, I have only one question for you: “After playing Blackjack all year, did you win money or lose money?” How often do you hear people boast about how well they play? Others will boast that they play at the twenty-five dollar tables with the real pros. Are you impressed?

Don’t be impressed by boasting Blackjack players until you ask them my New Year’s Eve question. If they finished the year with a positive cash flow from Blackjack, you can be impressed. If they made a financial donation to their favorite casino, don’t scold or be critical. Just let them see your copy of this course and suggest that they read it from beginning to end!

Again, we must ask the sixty-four million dollar question. Why do so few people win at Blackjack? The answer seems obvious, but is really quite complicated.

FIVE BLACKJACK COMMENTS

I must tell you about some of my friends who live near Asbury Park, New Jersey. Since they are about half way between Atlantic City and my home in New York, I stopped to visit them on the way home from my last Blackjack playing vacation.

After dinner, we got into a heated debate over their favorite subject-Blackjack! Since they can drive to Atlantic City in about an hour and a half, they play Blackjack there every week. They think that they are very knowledgeable about the game of Blackjack. Here are five of their most interesting comments of the evening. See what you think-

#1. “If you expect to win, you have to play at a twenty-five dollar minimum table. The five dollar tables attract the tourists and unskilled players that can ruin the game for you.”

#2. “You have to play on your lucky day. Tuesday is my lucky day. That’s why we always go to Atlantic City on Tuesday.”

#3. “Counting cards is ridiculous and doesn’t help you at all. You can’t count cards anyway-there are six or eight decks in that shoe!”

#4. “Ellen had a hot streak in the last few weeks. She is really winning like crazy! I wanted to give her a hundred dollars to play for me, but I didn’t want to jinx her winning streak!”

#5. “Blackjack playing systems are worthless. I have no time to waste memorizing some stupid Blackjack playing system. Besides, the game wouldn’t be so much fun anymore.”

FIVE BLACKJACK FALLACIES

All of these comments show a very good understanding and acceptance of five of the more popular Blackjack Myths and Fallacies. These myths and fallacies seem to make sense, until they are subjected to scientific and statistical analysis.

Don’t misunderstand me! I do not mean to ridicule my friends in any way. We are only human. We have a great need to believe in these myths. In fact, many people will not alter their beliefs-even when confronted with scientific and statistical proof that any of these myths are in error!

In other words, we humans play Blackjack with our emotions in control of our playing decisions, rather than our intellect. This is the reason that it’s so easy for the casino to win that 6% advantage from the player-hand after hand.

Why do so few people win money playing Blackjack? Just hold up these five comments to the light of scientific and statistical reality, and you will see how all five contribute to a losing method of play-

#1: Do you have a better chance of winning at the twenty-five dollar table?

You can play at any table you like, and win! You are playing against the dealer. What the other players at the table do, or how they play the game is of no consequence to you. This particular myth dies hard. It is hard for many people to believe that the other players do not affect their game. -Believe it! -They don’t!

#2: Should you only play Blackjack when you feel lucky?

Luck is so important that I’ve devoted an entire lesson to it! If you believe in it-fine. Just remember, how well you play the game is of prime importance. Both your skill and your playing efficiency are under your control. Make sure that you don’t use luck as an excuse for your unwillingness to carefully learn and practice the playing method described in this course.

#3: Is “counting cards” ridiculous?

First of all, we do not “count” cards. We keep track of which groups of cards are dealt from the shoe. This can give us a definite advantage by indicating whether to place a large or small bet on the next hand. This fact has been proven over and over again by computer analysis, simulation, and actual playing experience.

#4: Is there really such a thing as a winning streak? Is it possible to do something to jinx this winning streak?

If you believe in winning streaks or losing streaks, or even worse, the ability to jinx someone’s streak by asking them to bet some money for you… let me introduce you to the tooth fairy. She is such a sweet woman. If you put your tooth under this pillow, when you wake up in the morning…

If I seem too sarcastic, excuse me. It’s just that I’ve seen so many friends and relatives lose a lot of money because of their belief in one or more of these Blackjack myths!

There are no winning streaks in the game of Blackjack, just wide statistical swings. These are caused by the random deal of the cards. The only way to jinx a “winning streak” is to start playing with your hunches and emotions, rather than a proven playing method. This playing behavior is sure to start a “losing streak” in short order!

#5: Are Blackjack playing systems worthless? Do you have time to memorize a Blackjack playing system? Can you still have fun skillfully playing the game with a Blackjack playing system?

Any Blackjack playing system that is based on a proper statistical analysis of the game is worth many times the price you pay for it! At worst it will save you from losing money at this game. At best it will enable you to win money over the long run.

Everyone can find some time to learn a playing method. Time is rarely the problem. It takes a good deal of determination and commitment to learn a Blackjack playing method. This is usually the main problem. We will deal with it later in the course. The only thing that takes the fun out of playing Blackjack is losing. Playing without a sound playing method is one way to increase the probability of losing at this game.

I did speak to Ellen on the phone this week. Well, I have to admit it-she does have fun on her weekly visits to Atlantic City. She goes to the same casino every time. She plays with the same dealers and pit bosses every week. She gets comps (free tickets) for her meals in the finest casino restaurants. She also gets complimentary tickets to the casino shows and even a free room in the hotel.

Some weeks she wins. Some weeks she loses. By the end of the year, she has usually made a very large contribution to this casino! Will she ever admit this? Of course not! She probably isn’t even aware of how much she has lost.

I visit Atlantic City less often than Ellen. I sure have plenty of fun during my visits. I eat in the best restaurants. I see the finest shows and entertainment. I don’t go to the same casino on every visit. I don’t get any comps. -I don’t need them!

Ten Tips to Use the Law of Attraction to Win at Casino Gambling

The Law of Attraction is the Law of the Universe that states that what you think about and focus on is what you will physically draw into your life to experience.

But what if you wanted to create more money for yourself by winning at gambling. Will the Law work for you then? The answer is Absolutely! — as long as you are vibrating in the right place mentally while you are doing it.

You see, I know this for a fact because I have been both studying the Law of Attraction for 20 years as well as enjoyed gambling for approximately the same amount of time; and I can tell you without a doubt that as my studying and learning has progressed, so has my winnings and jackpots!

While this article will mostly be focused on winning at Video Poker games in casinos (because it is personally my favorite to play and I know the most about it) I am sure you will find a lot of tips here that can help you win at other games as well.

Here are a few simple tips to help you get into vibrational alignment with winning as well.

1. Don’t gamble with money you cannot afford to lose.

Now, this may sound like typical “moral” advice that anyone would tell you, but from a Law of Attraction standpoint it is especially important. The fact of the matter is, if you are playing with rent or bill money then you are playing with scared or guilt money! Playing with scared money will put you in a negative vibrational place right from the start and will make it much more difficult to draw more money to you.

If money is a little tight right now – start a JACKPOT JAR in your home. (Be sure to write Jackpot Jar on it by the way. This way every time you look at it you are giving yourself a positive affirmation. Eventually you will come to believe that that is exactly what it is. ) Put some money in it every week. It doesn’t matter if it is $2, $5 or $10. Just put a little aside until you have accumulated the amount you would like to bring to the casino with you. Maybe you can cash in the penny or change jar you have sitting in the corner of your bedroom that is doing nothing.

The point is to go on your trip with “guilt-free” or “fear free” money. You will automatically be in a better vibrational place knowing that it really doesn’t matter if you win or lose it, as long as you have fun!

2. Visualize Winning Before You Go

My father was one of the luckiest Video Poker players I have ever met. When he hit, it was usually for some pretty big amounts. I remember a $13,000 jackpot, a few $8,000 jackpots and too many $4,000 and $1,000 jackpots to count.

Now the funny thing is my father didn’t technically believe in the Law of Attraction per se, but a favorite hobby of his was to daydream (or visualize) about his next trip to Atlantic City and how he was going to win. He would say things like “First I am going to go to the quarter machine and hit $1,000 there, then I am going to take that money and go play the dollar machine and hit $4,000 there and then I am going to sit for an hour or two winning smaller amounts until I hit the big one.” (Is it any wonder I am a fan of Video Poker when I see someone win at it so easily?)

Now again, he didn’t do these visualizations as a “technique” to help him win, he just did it because it was fun for him think about. Regardless of the reason why he was doing it – I can tell you it absolutely worked!

It got to the point where if he won less than 3 jackpots in a weekend, it was considered a “slow” weekend.

Eventually he got so good at winning – the thought of losing didn’t even enter his mind. And Law of Attraction being what it is (what you think and believe is what you get) he hardly ever did lose.

So start visualizing winning before you even go. Start small if a “huge jackpot” seems too unbelievable to you. Say O.K. first, I’ll win $100 here, then win $300 there. Imagine the perfect hands that will be dealt to you. Feel the excitement you would feel as if you had really won. Envision yourself counting a huge wad of bills on your trip home and how good it feels. Do this as often as possible before your trip so you are already on a great vibrational level before you even arrive at the casino.

3. Practice at Home

If you are reading this, chances are you have access to the internet. The internet has tons of free sites where you can practice “winning.”

Find your favorite game free online and practice how winning feels. (Don’t pay attention to any losing hands in your free play) just focus on how “easy” it is to win. Feel as if you are playing with real money. Feel the excitement, feel your confidence grow as you get one winning hand after another.

Now that you are fully prepared for your trip, here are more tips for when you get there:

4. Watch Your Words

While negative thoughts can keep you from winning, those thoughts spoken aloud can be ten times more powerful. Be careful not to fall into typical “casino talk” that is so common for players. For instance:

How much are you down?

How much money do you have left?

Nobody seems to be hitting today (or the opposite).

Everybody seems to be hitting today except me.

I’m never lucky in this place.

I can’t get any play.

I can’t seem to do anything

I hate this placev

This place Sucks!

Remember, Universe is following your lead. When you utter these kinds of thoughts and feelings, universe responds as always by bringing more of it to you.

Try more positive statements such as:

My winning machine is calling to me right now, I just have to listen.

My jackpot is waiting for me here somewhere and I am going to find it.

The right machine is going to jump right out at me.

I love coming here, I always have such a good time!

5. Truly Enjoy The Game While You Are Playing

Stop focusing on the credits that are going in and out or the amount of chips left on the table and bring your focus back to the enjoyment of the game itself.

There have been many times, especially in Video Poker where I have gone into “auto-mode”. I have been playing the game for so many years, that not much thought is needed to automatically hold certain cards that are dealt in a hand. Unfortunately this leaves my attention open to focus on the amount of credits in the machine instead, and if the amount is going down, my vibration goes with it.

I have since learned to refocus on the fun of the game itself. I now slow down my auto response. I sometimes pretend to be a novice to the game. I get myself deliberately excited over something as little as a pair of 2’s that are dealt to me, wondering how cool it would be to draw another one –possibly even two more of them! Yeah! I no longer wait for only the “big” hands to get me excited. I purposely enjoy the game. The more I enjoy, the more I am vibrating positively. The more I am vibrating positively, the more good hands I bring to myself that give me something to be genuinely happy about.

So slow it down. Remember why you are there. To have fun. If you are focused on having fun, the money will come naturally.

6. Switch Up Your Game

Did you ever wonder why “beginners luck” occurs so often? I firmly believe it is because a person who doesn’t know how a game is played, can’t have any negative thoughts or resistance associated with it.

An experienced video poker player may know that 9 out of 10 times that 5th card for the Royal Flush will not come up, but a novice has no idea. So where an experienced player might not believe it is going to happen because it is usually difficult, a novice has no such mental resistance.

If you feel you are not having any luck at your usual game of choice, go play a game you have no clue about. I can’t tell you how many times I have won money and didn’t even know what I hit or did to get it. What fun! Then I take the winnings from that and go back to my usual game with a whole new winning vibration.

7. Go on a Good Luck Charm Treasure Hunt

So, do good luck charms really work? We are talking about Law of Attraction here, so obviously they will work if you believe they will.

Does it have to be a certain charm? Not at all. My mother and I have been going to Atlantic City together for years. One of our favorite things to do when things are going slow is go on a Good Luck Charm Treasure hunt.

When someone wins a machine jackpot, the casinos place little white cards in the coin slot that says “Congratulations! You are a winner!, as the person is getting paid. Quite often people leave these lying around and I love to find them and use them as my good luck charm because they already have winning associated with them. If however, after 4 or 5 hands they haven’t brought any luck, we look for other things.

Sometimes it can just be a swizzle stick lying around. I will pick it up and hold it out as if it is the Holy Grail and claim “This is it! This is the one!” and gently place it on my machine. We’ve had more fun coming up with the strangest of charms to use and experiment with.

One time we drew a little Kilroy figure on a piece of paper. (You know the guy with the big nose and hands looking over the wall?). We put him on the top of our machine and had all sorts of fun with him. We would rub his little bald head before hitting the play button. My mom would turn him over and make him face the wall if he didn’t give us the second hand we wanted. We ended up having such a good time and so many laughs, that we ended up doing very well that day.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it was “Kilroy” who made us win, but we were having so much fun playing with him, our mood and vibration so light and happy, that Universe had no choice but to respond in kind and matched our vibration with lots of winning hands and money. Remember it is all about the vibration you are sending out. Abundant good feelings brings more abundance in other ways.

8. If You Can’t Change Your Negative Vibe – Walk Away For Awhile

Sometimes no matter what you do, you can’t shake a losing attitude. If you find this happening to you it is time for a little mental distraction. You know the saying “No sense in throwing away good money after bad”

If you are operating from a negative place, it will only bring more negative (i.e. more losing). So it is time to walk away for awhile and change your mood in other ways. If you are lucky enough to have a hotel room go there for awhile. Rent a $10.00 comedy on the television (believe me you would lose a lot more than that if you kept playing negatively for 2 hours on the casino floor) and lighten your mood.

Maybe go window shopping in the Casino mall, listen to the live band playing in the lounge, go for a walk on the boardwalk or the strip. Go get yourself a great snack or meal you would normally not eat at home. Up your vibration, feel better and then go back and play. Again, it is all about vibration.

9. Put Your Emotion Into Your Winning Hands – Not Your Losing Ones

Let’s say you have 4 cards to a winning hand dealt to you and you do not pull the last card that you need. What is your immediate first response? Do you feel hopeful that at last the cards are starting to line up for you and a winning hand is on its way soon or do you feel disappointment or anger that you “missed” it and find yourself fuming for the next 20 minutes.

Again, your vibrational reaction makes all the difference. If you focus only on the hands you didn’t win guess what you will get? More non-winning hands. If you put your emotion into the excitement of the winning hands, no matter how small, guess what you will get? More winning hands.

Learn to change your focus and put more of your happy emotion into the winning hands only. This leads us to the last and most important tip to winning more with the Law of Attraction.

10. Gratefulness

Personally I have found that nothing helps me win more than constant gratefulness while I am playing. If I win even as little as 5 coins I will say “Thank you Universe and more of that please!” Like I mentioned above, I purposely get myself more excited about the wins and have learned to feel little or no emotion at the losses. I also make a concentrated effort to appreciate every thing around me. I am grateful for the air conditioned casino in the summertime. The fun sounds and lights I am surrounded by. The free drinks. The shouts of people winning at the craps table across the casino ( I love hearing the excited sounds of others winning! It boosts my spirits and makes me want to win even more, so I can share in the excitement.) I enjoy the company of the people I go down to the casino with, the food in all the restaurants, the clean hotel room.

Remember the reason you went was to have fun. Make that your priority and Universe will respond in kind and make sure it is fun for you.

Happy Creating!
